Tafoni

This piece is my homage to one of the most poetic and artistic works of nature I’d ever seen. Intricate designs carved into sandstone by the wind, salt spray and spinning sand. Bean Hollow, where these photos were taken, is a beach up the coast, just north of Pescadero, CA. I was taken there by a friend several years ago, as an antidote to the intense caregiving I was doing towards the end of my mother’s life.

In the month following her death, I determined to sit with the photographs I’d taken that day until I could do them justice. This was my way of paying my respects.
